BOYD BROTHERS JOIN TITANIC DÉJÀ VU ULSTER

Derek and Adrian Boyd, Ireland’s legendary rallying brothers, will be back on familiar special stages when they drive over the Titanic Déjà Vu Ulster route on the 1st September.

Derek and Adrian Boyd, Ireland’s legendary rallying brothers, will be back on familiar special stages when they drive over the Titanic Déjà Vu Ulster route on the 1st September.

Derek won the Ulster International Rally in 1977 with Roy Kernaghan, driving a privately run Porsche 911 Carrera RS. The County Antrim pair triumphed against stern opposition from the works entries of Russell Brookes (Escort RS1800) and Pentti Arikkala (Vauxhall Chevette HS).

Derek, with Fred Gallagher, was out in front again on the Ulster a year later in a factory Triumph TRV8 until the engine blew just three stages from home. Derek’s Ulster reputation was further enhanced when he finished 2nd with Rodney Cole in 1980.

His elder brother Adrian, a twice Circuit of Ireland Rally winner, was also a winner over the County Antrim stages on the 1972 Texaco Rally, the forerunner to the Ulster International.

“I co-drove with the Boyd brothers on many occasions so it will be a pleasure to welcome them both on Titanic Déjà Vu Ulster. There were many memorable moments but winning the Novice’s Award on the 1964 Circuit of Ireland with Derek in a Mini Cooper S and the same event outright with Adrian in 1971 driving a BDA Escort – REV 120K, stand out.” said Dr. Beatty Crawford, joint event organiser of Titanic Déjà vu Ulster.

Derek will be driving a 1980 Porsche 911 and Adrian his fully restored 1971 Alpine Renault A110, in the valuable cavalcade of cars that will undertake the 140- mile route through the Antrim Glens and along the Causeway Costal Route.

Adrian will be driving his restored 1971 Alpine Renault over better surfaces this September.
